After the success of their first fantastically fulsome Cocada compilation, Get Physical are teasing the arrival of a second instalment with a new EP featuring three brilliant tracks from it.
The essential Cocada compilation series focusses on emerging talents in Brazil and does that again here, with Bruce Leroys up first. They are a Brazilian house duo made up of Diogo Vaille and Marcelo Abreu who make disco tinged house with 80s influences and have released on this label as well as LouLou and Yoshitoshi before now. Their enchanting ‘Liberdade (Extended Dub Mix)’ is a spine-tingling deep house track with majestic keys unfolding over the top of the soft, inviting drums. It’s one for cosy back rooms and crowds who like real emotion, especially once the shiver-inducing female vocal comes in.
Next up is another winner from Marye. She hails from Sao Paolo and featured on the Words Don’t Come Easy Part 6 release with a standout track. Here, her super ‘Zenith’ is a daringly slow house cut where the space between the beats is coloured with deft synth work, spoken word snippets and plenty of subtle tension. It’s an enthralling number
that will help warm up any club.
Last up is Mezomo, who is the head of the Sunset Sessions crew who put on killer parties in the south of Brazil. A regular at D.Edge, he brings some colourful house grooves, with layered vocal harmonies and xylophone melodies all making it feel like it was recorded with an African tribe in the Brazilian jungle.
This is a fine taster of what is to come from this already vital series.
