To accompany the release of the latest Body Language mix compiled by Aero Manyelo, Get Physical are releasing an excellent EP featuring two of the exclusives from it, one by Laolu and one by Martin Waslewski.
Laolu is a Swiss artist with a distinct and sophisticated house sound. A remix he did for the Innervisions crew proved that and was one of Dixon and Ame’s secret weapons for many months, since then his jazz and soul infused sounds have combined with his passion for Detroit techno to come on Clap Your Hands, Defected and Freude Am T anzen.
His sublime ‘He a Savage’ is an atmospheric house track built on upright drum kicks and wooden hits. An insular chord riff repeats over and over, with piano keys and rattling snares adding to the intoxicating charm of it all. A poignant break down and heartfelt vocal calls ensure this one is utterly spell binding.
It is then to Martin Waslewski, a German who grew up on hip hop but who now makes fluid, melodic and groove based house cuts for Mother Rec and Hommage. The tastefully meditative ‘Expectandum’ is another fine example of this with its long tailed pads, warm underlapping bass and smooth percussion. Soothing female vocals drift up top with cosmic tinged keys, and despite its subtleness, it doesn't take much to imagine this one really getting big reactions in the club.
These are two tender and terrific house tracks for those who like plenty of depth and emotion to their tunes.
